The new building in the courtyard adapts to the existing typical Berlin Block context of front and back buildings. It has 4 floors containing one unit on each floor. The apartments are accessed directly over the elevator or the outdoor staircase. As the building is situated in the back court the necessary requirements in regards of the fire regulations were met by designing an outdoor concrete staircase which is only partially enclosed.
On the top floor the inhabitants can use the communal terrace. The house is lifted and the ground floor is left unbuilt allowing free access for all to the existing back garden.
